Corporate Social Responsibility

Challenge

Identify events and activities that fall within a few key focus areas to have a greater impact on areas that are consistent with best practices, closely aligned with MITRE’s business mission and values, and in support of MITRE’s brand.

Actions

MITRE employees are passionate about the needs of the communities in which we live and work, and we are committed to ensuring they have the support, time, and resources to pursue these passions through our corporate social responsibility efforts.

MITRE’s commitment to corporate social responsibility aligns with a mission to serve the public interest. For greatest impact, we concentrate support in three areas:

  • Building a foundation for the future—promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and ensuring our workplace represents diverse talent.
  • Connecting with our sponsor communities—including support for veterans and healthcare.
  • Enriching our communities, to ensure we leave a light environmental footprint and help neighbors in need.
Employees can request 40 hours/year of paid time to pursue civic/charitable activities promoted via a portal on our intranet that shares volunteer and donation opportunities posted by employees or local non-profits.
Outcomes

Since launching our formal Corporate Social Responsibility program in 2015, we’ve seen a steady increase in employee volunteers and activities around social, environmental, and special initiatives that benefit our sponsors, veterans, and communities. Since 2015, our employees have donated over 12,000 hours each year of their time in support of these efforts.

Quote

At MITRE, public service is a concept viewed broadly and reflected in our commitment to our employees, to the communities in which we live and work, and to inspiring and engaging the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators. Our commitment to corporate social responsibility goes hand-in-hand with our mission to serve the public interest.
