Communication and Shared Vision

Challenge

Gorst & Compass leadership recognized the need to improve communication companywide to increase engagement and inclusive awareness. With a large population working remote, we recognized that more open dialogue and communication could drive a more inclusive work culture with a shared vision.

By improving internal communication among all staff, we could further empower and ensure all employees feel welcome and part of the team, regardless of unique differences.

Actions

In 2021 Gorst & Compass leadership and teams began working to identify and advocate improvements for enhancing internal  communications. Best practices and actions were outlined to promote a more inclusive workplace culture.

  • Developed a mission statement to support the overall vision and core values as a way to articulate the value of individuals, and DE&I statement to convey the company’s commitment. Communicated these companywide to promote a sense of belonging and shared purpose.
  • Utilized technology, including a new website redesigned with improved features creating space where value statements were highlighted and commitment to providing a culture of diversity, collaboration, and teamwork openly communicated.
  • Social media posts to connect us through celebrations and observe various backgrounds and promote cultural awareness.
  • Virtual companywide meetings to allow all employees to join together to hear important messaging from leadership and recognition of employees for contributions to the company.
  • Employee Newsletters to openly inform staff of company news, leadership messages, policies, and events. Company-wide communications announcing each new hire, promotions, and other employee highlights to drive a feeling of belonging.
Outcomes

Ongoing communication initiatives and actions have strengthened the perspectives of our employees and have helped to increase an environment of belonging. The feedback from employees at all levels has been positive and has helped to promote teamwork and a shared focus. Efforts have moved us closer toward goals of achieving a more inclusive workplace. These actions have prompted further conversations about collaboration, and we will continue working to ensure everyone at Gorst & Compass feels included and recognized.
