Building the Future Pipeline

Challenge

Crestwood is dedicated to providing real, lasting and sustainable benefits in education and workforce development that provide communities broad options for their future and build a highly skilled employee base for the regions where we operate.

There is a significant population in the United States who lack access to learning resources and meaningful work opportunities, creating an opportunity gap. These individuals have been historically disconnected from corporate America and the economic mobility that a professional career can bring.

In 2018, we realized we needed to enhance our focus on building the future pipeline of talent and encourage more diverse candidates into the company and the wider energy sector.

Actions

We developed a robust community investment strategy that incorporates not only charitable donations, but also creating volunteering, internship and mentorship opportunities to diverse candidates.

Outcomes

Through our on-going partnership with Genesys Works, a nonprofit supporting nearly 1,000 underserved high school students with skills training, meaningful work experiences and ongoing college and career support.  More than 90 percent of students completing the Genesys Works program enroll in college, a rate of more than double that of their peers, and 81 percent of all program graduates are either in college or have completed a degree.

We hired two full-time interns from Genesys Work, providing them with an opportunity to develop valuable skills. Through their 12-month rotation program, these highly skilled individuals will gain experience within our corporate communications, safety, risk and human resources departments. It was such a success for one of our interns that they came back for a second year to work with our health and safety group.
