Building Connection and Belonging at LGA

Challenges

As our firm continues to grow at an exponential speed, we face the challenge of fostering genuine connectivity and inclusion to create a culture where every team member feels seen, heard, and valued. Lack of meaningful connection can lead to feelings of isolation, disengagement, and missed opportunities for collaboration. Therefore, we must actively build a culture where inclusivity is not just a goal but a fundamental part of how we work together.

Actions

To address this challenge, LGA formed the following groups and enacted community engagement:

  1. DEIB Advisory Council: A strategic group of LGA leaders dedicated to overseeing all DEIB efforts within the firm, fostering a culture that embraces DEIB while encouraging courageous and meaningful conversations.
  2. DEIB Focus Group: A group of LGA team members from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences who offer fresh ideas and serve as a sounding board for all things related to our DEIB movement.
  3. Women’s Affinity Group: Composed of female team members who advocate for the advancement of women in the accounting industry, this group meets throughout the year for fellowship, education, and support. They address issues impacting women’s career progression, initiate conversations to drive change, and work together to foster inclusivity and promote a progressive culture within the firm.
  4. DEIB Book Club: The group meets to discuss books exploring key DEIB themes such as social justice, cultural awareness, the historical and contemporary experiences of underrepresented groups, and strategies for fostering a more inclusive world. Our DEIB Book Club provides an excellent opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations and learn from diverse perspectives.
  5. Go Green Committee: A group of LGA team members who are enthusiastic about identifying ways to help keep our environment sustainable and healthy.

Community Contributions: We actively support organizations that align with our DEIB values, including donations to BAGLY (Boston Alliance of LGBTQIA+ Youth), the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, and women-owned businesses like Tiffani Fashion – Sweet Cheeks, among others.

Outcomes

LGA's DEIB groups and committees have played a key role in creating a culture where inclusion, belonging, and connection thrive. They’ve empowered team members to share their perspectives and collaborate in meaningful ways.
