Black Professional Network (BPN)

Challenge

Black employees are significantly underrepresented across Legrand North Central America’s (LNCA) across all levels of the organization. While LNCA has historically been able to recruit Black candidates, retention continues to be an issue. Furthermore, LNCA’s Black employees have not had consistent resources for support, mentoring or fellowship within the company.

Actions

LNCA created the Employee Resource Group, Black Professional Network (BPN) in 2020 for Black employees as a means of creating community, providing networking opportunities, and promoting leadership development. Their charter aims to increase awareness of disparities, better understanding of our Black employee’s needs and ensure equal opportunities.  Using this lens, group can help Black employees through advocacy, mentorship, opportunity, and career advancement while ensuring inclusion, and equity.

BPN’s 2021 initiatives are focused on:

  • Supporting Black employees’ health and development at LNCA
  • Partnering with LNCA management to promote a fair and equitable workplace
  • Setting concrete metrics in order to attract and retain Black candidates/employees
  • Supporting LNCA’s efforts to engage with Black/ minority-owned businesses and community organizations where our employees live and work
Outcomes

In addition to creating a safer and more equitable place for Black employees, the BPN is focused on improving the recruitment, retention, and career advancement of LNCA’s Black employees.  This will be aided by increasing visibility of BPN’s efforts to management, establishing mentorship opportunities, and increasing employee engagement to aid LNCA in building a better and more inclusive workplace.
