Aprio Volunteer Day

Challenge

Create an event that allows the employees a day off to give back to the community while educating them on the benefits of community giving.

Actions

To address this challenge, Aprio organizes an annual Volunteer Day with the mission to promote community involvement. Each year Aprio partners with the United Way and various non-profit organizations across the community. We align with a diverse group of organizations to reach a wide range of individuals who need a little extra help.

Aprio's community service committee begins planning Volunteer Day months in advance and collaborates with firm employees in the selection process to determine which organizations to serve each year. With the support of firm leadership, we close the office for an entire day. This enables us to eliminate the distractions at the office and truly focus on giving back and the resulting team building.

The first half of Volunteer Day is spent educating employees on the mission of each of the organizations we partner with and the impact we can make on those they serve. The second half of the day is spent serving the community. In years past, Aprio employees have built furniture, made snack packs, sorted food and medical supplies, organized books, cleaned up the environment and tutored/read to elementary and middle school children.

Outcomes

Aprio's firmwide support of and commitment to this initiative has created an immeasurable positive impact for employees and the community. To date, over 1,000 employees have participated in Volunteer Day, contributing over 8,000 hours of community service time that has benefitted thousands of families, children, veterans, homeless, women's shelters and human trafficking victims. This action supports one of our firm fundamentals, Making A Difference, which encourages Aprio employees to be an active part of the community and give back by contributing their time, effort and where appropriate, their money, to make the community better.

Quote

Aprio is built on the foundation of giving back to the community that has given so much to us, and Volunteer Day enables each of us to step away from the hustle and bustle of business and take some time to give back to those less fortunate than we are, and reflect on our own thankfulness
