Ancestry Day of Understanding

Challenge

Ancestry’s commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) is one of the most important guideposts of our organization - and we know that actions speak louder than words when it comes to real and lasting change, and cultivating a true sense of belonging for everyone.

Actions

In 2021, we introduced Amplify Voices, an internal speaker series where we invite thought leaders from diverse backgrounds to share their own stories and the stories of history makers before them. We welcomed six inspiring speakers including civil rights activist and community organizer, Dolores Huerta, in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, and transgender activist and TED resident, Samy Nour Younes Figaredo, who spoke to the history of LGBTQ+ communities and the importance of transgender representation.

Outcomes

We plan to implement a Global Day of Understanding in the Spring as part of our DEI programming to complement our Amplify Voices speaker series. For our inaugural Day of Understanding we plan to engage our four global regions by welcoming external speakers and facilitators to curate an interactive program for employees to engage in open, honest and genuine conversations that help bring forth new perspectives and a greater sense of belonging.

At Ancestry, we are committed to helping everyone easily discover, craft and connect around their family story. To build a truly global product for all, we must attract and engage a diverse workforce with different voices, perspectives and backgrounds at the table. Our commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is one of the most important guideposts of our organization. We know actions speak louder than words when it comes to real and lasting change, which is why we are proud to join the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion.
