Affinity Groups and Networks at Stantec

Challenge

We want to enable affiliation, connection, and a safe space for employees. We do this by discussing the issues surrounding personal experiences related to their particular expression of diversity while contributing to their leadership skills, career development, and Stantec’s inclusion & diversity strategy.

Actions

An Employee Resource Group (ERG) framework was created to support and guide employees who share a common background with practical information about how to plan and structure their ERG, while keeping them focused on four key areas: Culture and Awareness, Career and Talent Development, Commerce and Adding Client Value, and Engaging our Communities and Enhancing Social Responsibility.

Interested individuals/teams are supported by a senior leader sponsor and budget to carry out their activities. Each ERG chapter creates plans and events that are meaningful and impactful. It is very important to note that all ERGs are open to anyone at Stantec to join. Communities of practice for ERG leads have been created across Stantec to network, share best practices and overall learn from one another.

Outcomes

We now have over 50 ERGs that are employee-led. They include Women@Stantec, Pride@Stantec, LatinosinStantec (LiS), IndigenousConnections@Stantec, PWD@Stantec (Persons with Disabilities), MAVA@Stantec (Military and Veterans Advocates), Asians@Stantec, and BLK ERG.
