Advancing Equity For LGBTQIA+ Community at Cue Health

Challenge:

During these times of uncertainty, including the COVID-19 pandemic, macroeconomic downturn, and most recently, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) declaration of a State of Emergency for the LGBTQIA+ community in the United States, Cue Health is challenged to prioritize creating a sense of belonging for all of its team members.

Actions:

Cue Health’s mission is to empower people to live their healthiest lives and we want to make that happen everyday for all our employees. To ensure that our LGBTQIA+ team members at Cue Health feel safe and supported during these times of uncertainty, we formed Pride at Cue in June 2022, an Employee Resource Group (ERG) open to all LGBTQIA+ employees and allies. This ERG is focused on creating awareness, encouraging visibility, and cultivating a sense of belonging. Their vision is to build and foster an inclusive community for all. Pride at Cue features 30 members, and is growing, and has made great strides in its first year for LGBTQIA+ community members at Cue Health.

In July 2022, Cue Health and the Pride at Cue ERG sponsored the San Diego LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade; over 70 employees attended and marched with Cue in the parade. In 2023, we became a year-long sponsor of San Diego Pride and supported the San Diego Pride's Queer Asian Pacific Islander Middle Eastern Desi Americans coalition. This group’s mission is to create a space for individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+ and Desi, Middle-Eastern, Pacific Islander, Asian. Being an ongoing sponsor shows our employees and community that we support authenticity and visibility, two key aspects in creating an inclusive environment and putting action behind our words.

In addition, for the first time, Cue Health completed our submission for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) 2023 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI has become a benchmarking tool for businesses in the United States to ensure companies are inclusive of the LGBTQIA+ community. Rating Criteria for the 2023 CEI includes Workforce Protections, Inclusive Benefits, Supporting an Inclusive Culture and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Outcomes:

With the creation of our Pride at Cue ERG we have been able to build a more inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ community members. In the past year, with the help of Pride at Cue, we created a LGBTQIA+ inclusive benefits guide, transition support documents and became signatories on the Business Coalition for the Equality Act.

We are committed to providing all team members with comprehensive benefits; with that in mind, we created a LGBTQIA+ Inclusive Benefits Guide with an overview of our benefits and services for LGBTQIA+ employees and their dependents. This guide covers our standard benefits like health, dental and vision as well as other services like Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Basic Life and AD&D, Short & Long Term Disability, 401(k) retirement plan, legal insurance, identity protection services, EAP and more. In addition to being more inclusive and supporting all gender identities, we also created transition support documents. These documents are a guide to help foster an internal dialogue and an understanding of issues for transgender and gender non-conforming employees, their colleagues, managers, human

resource professionals, and others who may be involved in a workplace transition. This guide provides information on a supportive restroom, dress code and a formal team (representatives from HR and Diversity and Inclusion teams, and a member of the Pride at Cue ERG) to help ensure the transitioning employee has everything they need. Lastly, Cue Health became signatories on the Business Coalition for the Equality Act. According to the HRC, half of all U.S. states can deny LGBTQIA+ Americans basic freedoms like the right to rent a home or the ability to receive public goods. The Equality Act will change that, ensuring basic freedoms and protections for every American in every state on a federal level.

Cue is proud to offer these resources to employees and support our LGBTQIA+ community near and far. We know that creating an inclusive environment for all our team members is not only good for our Cue team members, but ultimately, it will make us stronger and enable us to achieve our mission of empowering individuals to live their healthiest lives.
