Women’s Leadership Development Initiative
Women’s leadership is a business imperative vital to Marriott’s success and we have established workplace
policies and practices to ensure and demonstrate our commitment to attract, develop and retain women leaders.
Since 1999, our Women’s Leadership Development Initiative has focused on leadership development, networking and mentoring, and responsive workplace policies. This platform concentrates our efforts on developing and building a strong pipeline of future women leaders, providing greater opportunities and forums for women to network and build mentoring relationships, and promoting work/life integration. All women’s leadership events at Marriott have been executed to incorporate these key areas of focus for women leaders. This program is alive and well today with a strategy intended to fulfill the following objectives:
- Increase the presence of women in the highest level of management and in other key decision-making positions;
- Improve the career development process at Marriott;
- Develop a role for senior management to play in ensuring that women progress; and
- Capitalize on the supply of women leaders currently available to drive the success of the organization.
These objectives are reinforced through a variety of internal and external educational opportunities, strategic
partnerships, retention programs, and work/life effectiveness initiatives.
Today, women comprise 54% of our total workforce, hold some of the most significant P&L and policymaking positions across our company, and represent 50% of our CEO’s direct reports. By 2025, our goal is to achieve this same gender parity for the company’s entire global leadership team.
