The Importance of Inclusion in a Time of COVID-19: A Message from Melissa Maher, EG Chief Inclusion Officer

Statement

As the COVID-19 concerns around the world continue to grow, I wanted to write to you all personally on behalf of the Inclusion & Diversity team. I'd like to start by quoting a note you all received within a COVID-19 update:

"As a travel company that believes in creating connections around the world, there has never been a more critical time to stand by our values. It's critical that we, as Expedians, remember to take care of each other, showing compassion and support for those most closely impacted and that we act as role models in a world where fear can lead to unintentional stereotyping and discrimination."

To quote Seattle Public Health, "Viruses Don't Discriminate. And Neither Should We." Per our Code of Conduct, discrimination is not tolerated at Expedia Group. We believe that all employees should feel safe and respected here and request that you are all considerate of your impact on others. We encourage you all to listen to, acknowledge, and with permission share the stories of people experiencing stigma, along with a message that discrimination is not acceptable in our EG community. We also ask you to please practice allyship - please speak up if you hear or see commentary or behavior that constitutes or leads to stereotyping or discrimination.

In addition, we know that this is a stressful time for all of you. As you heard in recent Town Halls, the health of our employees is top of mind for me, and all of our leaders. Please practice self-care and like they say on airplanes, take care of yourself before taking care of others. When engaging with your teams and peers, please remember to show compassion and support for those who are impacted. We appreciate that working remotely or in less populated office environments may feel isolating or lonely and we encourage you to stay connected digitally to others through BlueJeans, Slack, our Inclusion Business Groups, and Digital Random Coffees.

Below we share a number of resources available to you at this time so you can take care of yourselves and one another.

Let's do what we need to do to get through this...together!

Best,

Melissa
