After examining our organization and listening to staff, we recognized that pockets of diversity and inclusion work were happening at each of our member hospitals, however our patients and often our staff, move across our health system and would benefit from a more cohesive and integrated approach and inclusive experience.
Additionally, we recognized that in order to make sustainable change, we need to equip our leaders with the skills and knowledge to foster connection, activate diverse teams and drive innovation across the organization.
The importance and value of hiring a Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer to bring structure to our diversity, equity and inclusion work at a system level emerged as an essential strategy in our goals of educating our staff, creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment and enhancing our ability to attract and engage a talented and diverse workforce throughout our health system.
Our commitment to continuous learning is demonstrated through an intentional leadership curriculum designed to build inclusive leadership skills that will translate into environments in which our employees can do their very best work.
Even in the midst of the COVID pandemic and the resulting challenging financial environment, we have allocated funds to support the hiring of a Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer and to continue to invest in leadership training.
Solving the complex problems in healthcare require the creativity and insights that only a diverse workforce can deliver. Embracing diversity and inclusion is an important strategic imperative for Wellforce, and conscious inclusion is far more than a project or program but instead is a commitment to the way we lead. Bringing teams of people together with different experiences and perspectives allows us to make better decisions and best positions us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the individuals and communities we serve, as well as one another.
