First Data Salutes
Veterans and their families have committed to supporting the safety and security of our country – we owe them our support in return.
Through a company-wide military engagement strategy called First Data Salutes, we provide the military community with access to career opportunities and best-in-class education resources, while offering premier business solutions to veteran-owned businesses.
In June 2016, First Data expanded its military leave policy to become one of the most expansive amongst large corporations. Updates include full-pay (no shift differential) for up to two years for owner-associates who are called to active duty as well as full-pay for 19 days of annual training for National Guard and Reserve members.
First Data launched its Military Affinity Group, a company-wide network for First Data’s military-affiliated owner-associates and civilian supporters to connect and support our members through community building, networking opportunities, and professional development.
In February of 2015, First Data made a $7 million commitment to the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University (IVMF) to fund education, research, training and opportunities for transitioning veterans entering the business community. This partnership with IVMF provides thousands of new veteran and military spouse entrepreneurs with exceptional education, training and resource opportunities to help them build their businesses.
First Data was recently named the #1 Employer on Military Times’ annual “Best for Vets: Employers” 2017 list, among numerous other awards and accolades. The number of veteran and military spouse new hires increased by more than 10% in the first two years of First Data Salutes and MAG membership has increased by more than 400% since the ERG’s launch in 2014 and currently boasts more than 850 members and 10 chapters throughout the country.
Every day, both inside and outside of our offices, people at every level of our company take part in activities and initiatives that uplift others. Their collective work speaks to the very special company that is First Data. We know that many don’t have access to all of the educational resources they need. We know that many have served most of their careers in uniform. We know that many are underprivileged or suffer from hardships.
We’re proud of the work that we do in the area of corporate citizenship, but we’re also mindful that we have a long way to go to be the company that we want to be. We can always be better.
