Financial Stability in Diverse Communities

Challenge

How to engage teammates and help members of diverse communities achieve financial confidence.

Actions

In 2016, SunTrust focused its sponsorships, branding, advertising and volunteerism on helping to advance financial wellness in diverse communities across its markets. In addition, the SunTrust Foundation focused its philanthropy on financial well-being and provided a number of significant grants to educational institutions and non-profit organizations, including:

• Autism Speaks to create a Financial Planning Toolkit for families to plan for the long-term financial needs
of children with special needs.
• Florida International University (FIU) for a Financial Wellness Clinic to promote financial literacy and stability
to the FIU community, high school students and their parents.
• Operation HOPE to digitize and expand the reach of its learning curriculum in underserved communities.
• Virginia Union University to create a financial education program for students, parents and the local community.

Outcomes

The SunTrust Foundation’s philanthropic giving aided hundreds of thousands of families in improving their financial confidence. Further, through the national onUp Movement led by SunTrust, the company is providing tools to help millions of Americans reduce  financial stress and take steps toward financial well-being.
